Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q)

What is EmailXT?

EmailXT is a proposal for a new email protocol. It does not require any changes to the current email infrastructure, and two users are enough to make it work. It makes your email private, defeats any non-authorized bulk emailing, and stops viruses from spreading. Based on relationships, it allows self-updating address books. Increases email reliability by issuing delivery notifications.

What do I need to do to switch to EmailXT?

To join the EmailXT network, you just need to install a compatible application like InfinityXT on your computer, set it up, and you're ready to go!

I access my email both from home and from my laptop while on travel. How do I synchronize both?

The EmailXT protocol also defines a set of files and rules for synchronization of multiple mail clients. You just have to connect both clients and synchronization will be automatic.

Some friends of mine still use the old email system. Others use EmailXT. Can I use both systems at the same time?

Yes. You can receive both old and EmailXT messages at the same time, on the same mailbox. Just make sure the appropriate option is active on InfinityXT. Then you just have to first retrieve your EmailXT mail, and then the old mail.

I want to support the EmailXT system. What can I do to help it get promoted?

EmailXT needs your help to get promoted. First, tell all your friends about it! You can use InfinityXT to invite your friends. Also, if you have a website, provide a link to the EmailXT website. Additionally, you can help EmailXT development by making a donation or buying the premium version of InfinityXT. See the EmailXT homepage for more information.

Will EmailXT help me get rid of spam?

Yes. EmailXT's primary feature is relationship management. You can decide who can send you mail, and how. Several levels of access can be set on your mailbox: Open mailbox (anyone can immediately send you mail), Restricted mailbox (only those with a passcode can immediately send you mail. All others must validate themselves), a protected mailbox (everyone must validate) or a private mailbox (access by invitation only).

Are my EmailXT messages private?

All EmailXT messages are encrypted using certified, industry-standard methods. This means you can now send email without being worried about your message being read while in transit. However, if you initiate a relationship through a passcode, the security level of the first message is low. Please check the EmailXT documentation for more information.

Other authentication systems like SPF, DKIM and SenderID have been gaining momentum on the internet. How does EmailXT compete whith these systems?

EmailXT is not a competitor of these systems. In fact, they are complementary. EmailXT can validate email messages at the user end of the email infrastructure, but does not validate the sending domain or server. SPF, DKIM and SenderID can do that. With EmailXT and these authentication methods together, email can finally become a secure and trusted medium.

Do I need a new email address for EmailXT?

No. You can use your existing mailbox to receive EmailXT messages. Additionally, you may choose to receive both EmailXT messages and old-email messages on the same mailbox, as long as you check your new EmailXT messages first.

I switched to EmailXT a few days ago, but I am not receiving any mail. Is there something wrong?

Probably not. Some of your contacts probably haven't heard of EmailXT yet. You should invite them to the EmailXT network. InfinityXT has a special option to invite your friends. On the other hand, your ISP may be tagging some EmailXT messages as spam. In that case, contact your ISP and ask them to unblock all EmailXT messages. EmailXT messages can be easily identified by the ISP's. Please check the technical specifications to see how EmailXT messages can be identified.

How can EmailXT protect me from viruses?

There are two variants of email viruses: Those who attach to your outgoing messages, and the mass mailers, that send message
on their own. EmailXT prevents the proliferation of both types: Being every EmailXT message a self-contained block, nothing can insert new data on a message after it has been assembled, and any attached data will be discarded. Also, mass mailers will not be able to spread since a specific key is needed for each recipient for the message to be accepted.

How can I invite my friends to join the EmailXT network?

You can use the "Invite" option in InfinityXT to send invitation messages through old-system emails. You can add a personal message to the pre-defined one, that includes links to pages with information and downloads.
